A New Journey, A New Blog

Welcome to 2013! Its been a few days since I’ve written on here, but in my defense, I’ve started a new blog! Since I decided to move to Ireland for a working holiday and to travel Europe, I figured that I should try writing a travel blog, since that’s mostly what I’ll be doing for the next year or so. As a result, I probably won’t be writing very much on here for the next little bit (unless something really strikes me that I feel doesn’t belong on my travel blog). So, for those of you that really like my writing and thought processes (come on, there have GOT to be some other nuts like me out there, don’t be shy), please check out my new blog. I’d love to have you join me on my journey.

As for the rest, thanks for following me so far, and please pray for me while I’m on my travels.

Final Post of 2012 AKA I’m Ringing In The New Year With Journey (as per usual)

Well, here it is: the end of 2012, the beginning of 2013. I cannot believe that I’ve been at this blog for 1 year (sporadically, I must admit, but I’ve done it nevertheless)! Wow. I actually did it! Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!

Ahem. Excuse the enthusiasm. But you’ve got to understand that this is a big deal. This is solid proof that I completed one of my resolutions for 2012. As for the rest, well, perhaps not so much… But that’s okay because at least I did one!

Anyway, I didn’t really come here to talk about how awesome I feel at having stayed at this blog for a year. Nope, in truth, I came here to write about something completely unrelated:

Now, I will admit that I am one of those people that just wants things to happen with as little effort as possible on my part. I think I might be slightly brainwashed from watching too many Rom Coms or something like that. But a few days ago, I was listening to one of my favourite songs, “Miracles Happen,” the one by Myra from The Princess Diaries soundtrack (guilty pleasure; seriously, listen to this song and you will feel better, just like the “Despicable Me 2 Trailer,” but I digress). Well, I was listening to this song and one line really stood out to me: “Miracles happen once in a while when you believe.” Now, I’ve listened to this song probably thousands of times, but until a few days ago I never caught on when Myra sings “when you believe.” Not ‘if’. When.

Oh. So, in order for things to actually happen you actually have to believe they will. This really struck me. Why? Well, I like to keep my options open for any possibility to come along. Thing is, I never really believe anything will happen because I’m afraid that if I do and then that thing I was hoping for doesn’t happen, then I’ll be disappointed. But if that thing doesn’t happen, then I guess I wasn’t really believing in it after all… this is a problem.

So, my deduction came that in order for things to happen (miracles, if you will), you really need to believe that they will, otherwise all you’ve got is half-hearted intention which really isn’t any intention at all. It’s just wasteful energy.

Now, hold that thought because yesterday I was listening to the “Walking On Sunshine” mix on Songza and another song came on that made me think: “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals. Are you possibly seeing where I’m going with this? It’s just that when I heard those words, “we only get what we give,” I immediately thought to myself (again), “Oh.” So, not only do I have to believe that something is going to happen, I also have to give something in order to get something back. Aka, sorry, Joyanne; looks like you actually do have to put some effort in. Duh.

And that’s when the clock strikes midnight and it’s 2013! Well, here’s to truly believing and making things happen!
